The Brisbane area again
experienced a very warm, muggy night, with the temperature only dropping
to 24.4 at the airport and 24 at the Brisbane City AWS. Humidity levels
were close to 100% for much of the night, as the trough that brought heavy
rain to the NSW North Coast on Sunday stalled over SE Qld and continued
to feed moist, unstable northeasterlies over the capital. Storms developed
late last night and gave some heavy falls, with Cape Moreton recording 52.6mm
in the hour to 1am, Brisbane Airport 33mm in 30 minutes to 7.30am, and Toombul,
just NW of central Brisbane, recording 110 for the day ended 9am.
In the south, cold winds, hail showers and light highland snow gave Tasmania another taste of winter, while Wilsons Promontory in Victoria recorded wind gusts to 126km/h and sustained winds of 104km/h early this morning. Overnight temperatures continued to set new records in northern Western Australia. See special report. |
