About Australian Weather News |
| Heavy showers and rain areas
moving onto the Queensland North Tropical Coast in a moist trade
wind have given coastal areas south of Cairns up to 250mm over the past
two days. Tully McQuillan Street gauge recorded 245mm in the 2 days
ended 9 this morning, while totals for the 3½ days to 9 this evening included
339 at Tully, 335 at Jarrah Creek and 284 at Bolinda Estate. The showers
intensified today, with Innisfail recording 89mm between 9am and 3pm. Minor
flooding occurred in the Tully River, with a peak of 7.4m, 1.4 above the
minor flood level, expected at Euramo overnight into Monday.
Two cold fronts sweeping across Tasmania today produced storm force winds and hail in highland and coastal areas. Maatsuyker Island reported winds averaging 102km/h and gusting to 115 around 7pm as the second front moved through. |
