A severe storm running up the
coast off Sydney brought strong winds, heavy rain and 2.5cm hail
to coastal suburbs from Cronulla to Coogee shortly before
midday. Trees were brought down and a few buildings damaged, with the Maroubra
Surf Club losing its roof. The SES received over 20 calls for help.
21mm fell at Little Bay in the hour to noon. Later in the afternoon, a storm
that tracked NE from around Oberon dumped over 50mm at Kurrajong Heights
and Lower Portland, about 50km NW of Sydney.
A developing tropical low pressure system in the western Gulf of Carpentaria dumped 83mm in 3 hours to 6am on Gove Airport this morning for a 24 hour to 9am total of 118mm. The system went on to give North East Island 149mm in the day ended 9am Tuesday. |
