The heatwave that has persisted
in southern Western Australia all week moved east today, giving temperatures
of up to 13° above average to the state's southeast where top temperatures
of 36 or 37 were recorded. The warm air also spread into South Australia,
giving southeastern coastal locations top temps around 32 or 33°, some 11°
above the April norm.
The season of mists and mellow fruitfulness descended on Sydney this morning, with dense fog covering most of the metropolitan area including, unusually, the eastern suburbs. Sydney Airport was closed for part of the morning, resulting in the diversion of 17 international flights to Brisbane or Melbourne, and delays to domestic flights. Sydney Harbour ferry services ran to reduced speeds, while traffic on the M4 and F3 motorways was slowed by the fog, which dispersed mid-morning. |
