The low that developed in an inland trough in NE NSW yesterday continued to track SE overnight. Around dawn, it crossed the coast north of the Hunter, then deepened dramatically from 1005hPa at 4pm to 990hPa at 10pm. Gales developed around the low as it span up, while moderate to heavy rain, resulting mostly from convergence into the trough, was widespread from the central Queensland coast south to around Sydney. Rain on the Queensland and NSW North Coast petered out mid morning after giving falls of 50 to 70mm in the mountains and exposed coastal locations around Brisbane and across the border in NE NSW. During the evening, as the low span up off the Hunter coast, moderate rain fell in the Hunter with Cessnock recording 20mm in 3 hours to 6pm. |
