Lengthy front brings rain to W and N Tas, SW WA
The surface analyses at 10pm Wednesday and 4am, 10am and 4pm today show the bent back front skimming the Tasmanian north coast. BoM
A front bent back over northern Tasmania gave the area steady moderate to heavy rain for most of the day. The rain was particularly heavy in the ranges behind the west and northwest coasts and in the northeastern highlands. Mt Read, behind Rosebery on the west coast, recorded 74mm for the 24 hours to 9 this morning, with 50mm of that falling between 9pm and 9am as the front moved through. A further 44mm fell to 9am Friday. The focus of heavy rain moved east during the day, giving Ben Lomond in the northeast highlands 66.2mm for the 24 hours to 9am Friday and causing minor flooding in the upper South Esk River and low level flooding farther downstream.

The far end of the same front moved through southwestern WA overnight and this morning, bringing falls of 10 to 25mm southwest of a line from north of Perth to east of Albany. Falls from 25 to over 50mm occurred in an area from south of Perth to Bunbury with Dardanup, 10km SE of Bunbury, recording 59.2mm to 9am. Farther inland, Kojonup, 150km ESE of Bunbury, recorded 41.1mm, its highest one-day total for August in 94 years of record.
