Heavy rain in Perth
Fog slow to lift in southern SA
Storms up NSW coast
Heavy rain preceded a front as it passed through Perth late this afternoon. Swanbourne, on the coast 10km west of Perth CBD, recorded 38mm between 3 and 9pm for a total of 49mm in the 24 hours to 9am Tuesday. Bedfordale, 30km SE of Perth CBD, recorded 41.2mm for the 24 hour period.

A broad area of fog developed in southeastern SA overnight on the back edge of a 1031hPa high pressure system. At dawn, the fog extended from the Murray Valley south to near Mt Gambier and west to the Mt Lofty Ranges. It was slow to clear in southern and coastal areas, lasting for most of the day at Victor Harbour, 70km south of Adelaide.

An unstable cloudmass in a weak trough that moved up the NSW coast this afternoon and evening gave some moderate thunderstorms from Sydney northwards into southeast Queensland. Light hail was reported from western Sydney suburbs and Jerrys Plains in the Hunter Valley. Port Macquarie reported 27mm and Evans Head and Ulladulla 21mm in the 3 hours to midnight. The unexpected winter storm rolled into Sydney around midday with some exceptionally loud and isolated thunderclaps.
