Well above average temperatures were experienced across parts of southern Australia today for the sixth day running. Maximum temperatures exceeded 8° across a wide area, with southeastern WA and western Victoria and NSW showing anomalies of 11 to 13°. A strong high pressure system in the Tasman Sea has been blocking penetration of cold fronts into southeastern states since 17 September. Today, a northerly flow covered almost the entire continent ahead of a cold front moving across southwestern WA. Night time temperatures have also been rising, with minimum temperatures 8 to 11° above average covering eastern SA, western NSW and SW Qld last night. |
