About Australian Weather News

Heavy early morning storms on northern NSW and SE Qld coasts
An isolated storm at Coffs Harbour NSW produced 39.6mm at the airport in the hour to 1am this morning. The airport of several kilometres south of the city. In the city's northwest, Perry Drive recorded 32.5mm and Shepherd's Lane 29.8mm0 between 11pm and 1am. Little cloud or weather of note occurred anywhere else in the state, and the storm appears to have been locally generated as a significant upper trough passed across.

A similarly isolated event occurred at Heron Island, 80km NE of Gladstone Qld. A violent storm developed explosively between Gladstone and the island around midnight as the upper trough and remnants of a surface trough moved off the southeast Queenland coast. The research station on the island recorded a wind gust of 102km/h at 1.24am, followed by 13.4mm of rain in the six minutes to 1.31am. A total of 34.4mm fell in the hour to 2am.
