The frontal/trough system that
brought widespread thunderstorms to eastern Australia last Sunday rolled
over Norfolk Island this morning, giving the airport 123mm between
midnight and 3 this afternoon. A thunderstorm delivered some of the rain
around dawn, but most fell steadily through the period. The island's highest
one-day total for November, in a record stretching back to 1890, has been
112mm, but official one-day totals span the 24 hours from 9am to 9am, thus
splitting this rain event across two days.
Gusty gale force winds eased along the NSW coast today as the low responsible moved away into the Tasman Sea. Little Bay, on the coast north of La Perouse in southeastern Sydney, recorded the highest gust of 95km/h just after 9am. Waverider buoys along the coast from Eden to Byron Bay recorded 4 metre seas for much of the day, easing in the north. The Sydney buoy reported seas consistently between 5 and 6m throughout the day. |
