Flood Advice for West Gippsland [Avon, Thomson, Macalister Basins]

Issued at 2:03pm on Tuesday the 4th of December 2001 Rainfall totals in the period since 6pm Monday have been up to 80mm in parts of West Gippsland. Rainfall totals have in general been larger in the lower sections of the catchment areas. Further rainfall totals up to 20mm can be expected in the West Gippsland area over the next 6 to 12 hours. As a result of rainfall overnight and during today, significant stream rises are now occurring in the Thomson, Macalister and Avon catchments. Areas of minor flooding are possible in these catchments overnight.

Issued at 9:06am on Wednesday the 5th of December 2001 Rainfall has now eased in the Mitchell catchment. Mitchell River upstream of Glenaladale Some stream rises currently occurring but no flooding is expected. Dargo River Stream rises occurring but no flooding expected. Glenaladale At Glenaladale, the Mitchell River is now expected remain below minor flood level [3.0m]. High stream levels will persist around and downstream of Glenaladale into Thursday. Bairnsdale Expected to remain below flood level [4.0m].
