The trough that brought falls
of 50 to 80mm across central Queensland yesterday continued to move
slowly northeast today and into Monday morning, with areas of heavy rain
and thunderstorms bringing delight to farmers. The heaviest rain over the
three day period to 9am Monday was recorded in the Central West,
where Glencoe recorded 153, Lochnagar 137.2, Isisford 133.4, Barcaldine
PO 122.2 and Aramac 96.8mm. The rain brought minor flooding along the Thomson
and Diamantina Rivers and moderate flooding along the Barcoo over the next
couple of weeks.
Clear skies and low humidity following a weak change appear to be the cause of an unusually cool night across western Victoria and southeastern SA. Naracoorte SA recorded a minimum temperature of 1.0, while Longerenong, 20km east of Horsham Vic recorded 2.0, its coldest December temperature in 37 years of record and 9.3° below average. Echuca, Castlemaine and Nhill in Victoria and Coonawarra in SA all recorded temperatures close to frost level and 7 or 8 below average. |
