NSW bushfires continue
Slow-moving storms bring flooding to central Qld 28/12/02
See special report on the NSW bushfires.

Slow-moving thunderstorms overnight led to isolated flooding south of Mackay and in the Qld Central Highlands. The heaviest falls, in the upper reaches of the Nogoa and Comet Rivers, are likely to cause river rises in the Mackenzie and Connors Rivers during the weekend. A car became stuck in a flooded river crossing near Emerald and had to be towed to safety. The highest reported fall in real time was 176mm at Orion, about 60km SE of Emerald, however late reports showed some remarkably higher falls in the area including 397mm at Arcturus Downs, 324 at Koumala and 284mm at Juanita.
