A broad band of country from central southern NSW to Central Australia continues to experience unusually warm conditions for mid April. Overnight, minima were 8 to 12 above normal, with Ivanhoe in western NSW recording a minimum of 22.6, 12.6 above the norm. Today's maxima were a little below yesterdays, but the same area recorded tops 6 to 10 above normal. NEWSBITS: Storms yesterday, and a heavy storm this morning dropped 126.2mm on Bamaga, the northernmost settlement on Cape York Peninsula, Qld. A weak convergence line between cooler moist southerlies and warm northerlies produced storms from Melbourne to northeastern Victoria this afternoon. Falls were generally light, but brief heavy falls were enough to produce local flash flooding in eastern Melbourne suburbs, and significant electrical activity was reported during the evening around the Dandenong Ranges. |
