Cold start to the day in SE NSW, NE Vic
Overnight minima fell to record levels at a couple of places in the nation's southeast this morning. Nerriga, a tiny settlement half-way between Nowra and Braidwood on the NSW Southern Tablelands, recorded a low of -8.2, 1.2 below their previous lowest August minimum in 31 years. In Victoria's northeastern wine-growing area, Rutherglen recorded -6, breaking their previous record of -5.3 in 38 years. In the NSW Snowy Mountains, Charlotte Pass's minimum of -16 was shy of their August record of -20.6, but still an unusually low minimum for so late in the month.
