Records broken for rain in WA, warmth in SA |
A double-centred secondary low pressure system brushed along the southern WA coast overnight giving Esperance a record August 24-hour rainfall of 41.6mm, comprehensively exceeding its previous record in 33 years of 34.8mm. Farther west, Albany recorded 36.4, though falls away from these two areas were mostly light. Farther east in South Australia, in the warm northwesterly stream ahead of the low pressure trough, Ceduna had a record warm night, its minimum of 15.1 some 9° above normal. Nullarbor Roadhouse, near the head of the Great Australian Bight, recorded an overnight low of 17.0, up 11.5 on average. |
