Storms spark fires in SA, Vic

Storms with a front that crossed SA overnight caused nearly 30 fires from dry lightning strikes. Most of the fires, none of which was larger than 10ha in extent, were lit in an area from Georgetown and Gladstone in the north to Mt Dampier in the west and the Barossa Valley in the south. The storms were accompanied by wind gust up to 98km/h at Strathalbyn, 45km SE of Adelaide. In Victoria, the front moved through the northwest of the state during the afternoon and evening. ABC News reported that most of the fires were started in the Murray-Sunset National Park, where more than 100 firefighters were assisted by two water-bombing aircraft. There was also a large fire west of Horsham at Talopea Downs near the South Australian border.
