At Polda Basin, Wudinna and Kyancutta on the Eyre Peninsula, the mercury reached 43, while Parafield Airport in Adelaide's north got to 40.6. NEWSBITS: Pre-wet season heat continues across the tropics with inland areas of northern WA and NT, and northwestern Qld recording top temperatures between 42 and 46° today. These are 3 to 7 above average in an area where large departures from normal are rare. A series of thunderstorms during the evening gave St George, Qld, 47mm in the 4 hours to 10pm. The town's airport recorded 11.4mm in 10 minutes just after 6pm. Though storms developed through the S Qld and N NSW inland, rainfall registrations were generally light. |
