Tropical low brings heavy rain, cool weather to NT Top End

The tropical low that has dominated weather in the NT Top End since the beginning of the month continued to bring heavy rain to the Territory's northeast today. Mainoru, 200km SE of Jabiru, recorded its highest 24 hour total for any month in 25 years. Heavy cloud cover kept both day and night time temperatures well below normal in the area, with Mango Farm's minimum of 20.7 a January record low. Maximum temperatures were up to 11 below average -- Macarthur River Mine's top of 24.6 was 11.2C below the January mean.
