Flooding peaks in QLD coastal rivers
NEWSBITS: Fire conditions improve in southern NSW

Flooding peaks in QLD coastal rivers

Minor flooding is easing in the Fitzroy River at Rockhampton after the river peaked at 5.30 metres late yesterday. Upstream at Yaamba, the river peaked at 11.50 metres at 9 yesterday morning and moderate flooding is slowly easing. Minor flooding is continuing to ease along the Lower Dawson River between
Baralaba and Newlands.

NEWSBITS

A further sign of improving conditions in the Kosciuszko National Park fires was the reopening of two major roads through the park today. The Alpine Way which links Jindabyne in NSW to Corryong in VIC through Thredbo was reopened, as was the Elliot Way which links Cabramurra to Tumbarumba. The RFS reported today that some 30 fires that were started by lightning on Monday between Tooma and Gundagai, along the western flank of the national park, have now been contained.

On the 12th a funnel cloud was observed in the late afternoon north of Darwin Regional Office.
