Widespread fog in the east

Fog was unusually widely spread through QLD, NSW and VIC today. Broad fog areas developed on the Great Divide and on the western slopes, not clearing in many areas until late morning. The fog was unusual in its extent. The classic scenario for widespread fog is on the rear side of a High. This morning, however, with a weak trough off the NSW coast and a weak High in western SA, barometer readings across VIC, NSW and southern QLD were all within 4hPa, resulting in a huge windless and cloudless area, moistened by rain in the past couple of days.
