Hot again in SW WA, coastal NT
Heavy storm rains in SE Qld

Warm northeasterlies continued to bring hot conditions from the northern inland of Australia to southwestern WA today, with top temperatures west of a line from Geraldton to Ravensthorpe hovering around 30°, some 8 to 11 above normal. Albany Airport recorded a maximum of 29.0, 10 above average and 3.6 below the 38-year May record. At the Albany town site, it was the warmest May day in 7 years of records. Unseasonably warm conditions continued in coastal parts of the Northern Territory as strong southeasterly winds continued to prevent the normal seabreezes that cool the area.

An upper trough generated some heavy thunderstorm falls among more widespread rain across southeastern QLD during the morning. The heaviest falls were west of Gayndah, where Glenwood recorded 82mm, Cooranga 60 and Sauers, just west of the town, 54 for the 24 hours to 9am. As the storms moved east, Sandy Cape Lighthouse reported 65mm between 6pm and 3am Saturday, most falling during this evening. Daytime temperatures in the southeast were cool under the cloud, most failing to reach 20°, some 3 to 5 below normal for May.
