Strong winds bring heavy seas to NSW, QLD coasts

Strong winds raised 3 to 4m swells along the NSW and SE QLD coasts today as another exceptionally strong High moved into western Victoria. The High reached a central pressure of 1040 during the late morning, producing a robust pressure gradient along the coast. The winds were also gusty either side of a weak front that moved along the NSW North Coast and into SE QLD during the day. Coffs Harbour was effectively closed to shipping with 3m swells breaking across the port entrance and keeping the fishing fleet at dock. With a strong wind warning out for the entire NSW coast, gusts of 70 to 90km/h were common with peak gusts of 108km/h recorded at Cape Moreton SE QLD and 98 at Cape Byron NSW.
