Isolated storms, showers give heavy falls in WA, NSW, QLD

A small storm cell that moved onshore north of Brisbane around midnight gave Maroochydore QLD 59mm in the 3 hours to 3am. In WA, a trough and dying frontal system brought early morning storms and two very narrow rainbands across Perth and the southwest coast. Bickley in Perth's east recorded 11.4mm in the hour to 5am from the first storm, then 13.2mm in the 27 minutes from 7am from the second storm. There were some intense falls: Garden Island south of Perth recorded 5mm in just 3 minutes at 6am and later in the day Southern Cross registered 2.2mm in one minute to 1.49pm.

Later in the day scattered storms developed in southwestern QLD, one dropping 29mm on Quilpie in the 3 hours to 6pm. An area of heavy showers on the NSW North Coast gave Yamba an isolated 58mm between midday and 6pm.
