Heavy rain in WA Gascoyne
Cold pool brings snow to Vic, NSW

Unusually heavy rain for June fell in and around the Gascoyne/Pilbara area of WA today. Several areas of strong uplift developed in a cloudband ahead of a weakening troughline as it approached the Gascoyne coast giving an area to the north of Carnarvon falls of 50 to 75mm. Manilya, 120km NNE of Carnarvon, recorded the highest 24 hour fall to 9am of 73.5mm. As the trough pushed east into the Pilbara, Onslow recorded 79mm between 9am and noon and Roebourne Aero 39.6mm in the hour to 8pm.

An upper cold pool sweeping across western and northern VIC and southeastern NSW gave the area a bleak afternoon and dropped brief snow as low as the 800 meter level in the Batlow area of NSW during the early evening. 10cm accumulated on the ground at Kunama, 6km SW of Batlow at 1150m, between 7 and 10pm. Snow was also reported in Batlow. Overnight Saturday/Sunday, snow fell to the 800m level between Marysville and Reefton Spur to the northeast of Melbourne.
