Cold day in NW VIC
Rain and gales in SW WA

Persistent low cloud and widespread fog produced an exceptionally cold day across northern VIC, southern NSW and SE SA today with top temperatures 6 to 9 degrees below the June average. Several centres experienced their coldest day on record today: Swan Hill VIC 7 (rounded, previously 7.5), Ouyen VIC 7.3 (7.8), Lameroo SA 7.7 (7.8) and Balranald NSW 7.1 (7.5) and 9 below the norm.

A pair of Lows, one with central pressure around 978hPa, swept under the WA SW Coast today dragging twin cold fronts across the region. Moist air of tropical origin pulled from the NW ahead of the fronts gave some heavy falls, with Boyanup recording 96.6 and Bunbury 74mm in the 24 hours to 9am. 59mm of the Bunbury total fell in the 3 hours 9pm Tuesday to midnight. Wind gusted to 104km/h at Cape Leeuwin ahead of the change at 7.30pm last night. Details of other heavy falls and strong wind gusts are given below.
