Brief heavy rain sets record in SE WA

A small upper circulation and associated cloud band developed over the WA Central Wheatbelt east of Perth this morning. It moved southeast crossing the coast near Esperance, giving the town and an area north to Salmon Gums several hours of moderate rain. Salmon Gums recorded 32.4mm for the 24 hours to 9am Friday, its highest July 24 hour total in 67 years of record. Esperance and several properties in the region recorded around 25mm (see Wettest for 18 July 2003).
