Medium level snow continues in NSW, VIC, TAS
Cold again in SE QLD

Right: Maximum temperatures today. BoM.
Below:
Temperature, relative humidity and wind at 850hPa or about 1.4km above sea level at 10pm yesterday and 10am and 10pm today. The northward thrust of colder air into NSW is evident from the movement of the -2C isotherm. COLA

The coldest air in the current cold outbreak affecting southeastern states moved NNE into NSW today, giving a cold wintry day to the Central Tablelands and Central West where top temperatures were 6 or 7C below normal. Cowra reported a top of 6.2, Grenfell 6.3 and Parkes 7.0. Maxima also failed to reach double figures on the NSW Southern Tablelands and Southwest Slopes or across much of northeastern VIC.

Snow fell down to the 800m level across Victoria and north to the NSW Central Tablelands but was mostly very light. An exception was Mt Macedon, 60km NW of Melbourne, where about 15cm of snow settled during a shower, closing the road and stranding about 18 people in the Top of the Range Cafe. They were ferried to safety by police. Snow was reported close to the town of Mansfield around Merrijig. Snow settled to within 5km of Omeo in eastern VIC, and there was 1cm on the ground at Oberon NSW at 9am. Falls were light in the NSW and VIC skifields after receiving close to a metre of snow over the past week, though Mt Baw Baw reported 11cm of fresh snow. On the TAS Central Plateau snow settled to about 700m.

SE QLD experienced its fourth very cold morning in a row with minima 7 to 8C below normal. Details are below.
