Cool dry air brings cold nights to north and east
Heavy seas graze NSW Central Coast

Minimum temperature anomalies this morning. BoM.

Cold, dry air from this week's cold outbreak pushed north of the tropics overnight, giving an unusually cold morning to parts of central northern NT. Larrimah, Victoria River Downs and Wave Hill all recorded minima around 5C which is about 9 below normal for July. Borroloola and Wollogorang, both located a short distance inland from the Gulf of Carpentaria, recorded 7 and 5C respectively.

The NSW Northern Tablelands experienced yet another extremely cold night. Glen Innes Airport's minimum was -10.2, while the Ag Station at Glen Innes reported a grass minimum of -14. Casino Airport with -1.6 and Murrurundi PO with -5.6 were 8 below normal.

A Low that formed east of Tasmania on Tuesday has been drifting very slowly ENE into the Tasman Sea over the past two days, building a large swell onto the NSW coast. The waverider buoy off Bondi, Sydney, has been reporting average wave heights of 5m today, with maximum wave heights around 10m. Fortunately, the direction of the swell has been southerly, so that waves have been grazing most of the SSW/NNE oriented coastline, and only the few south-facing beaches have been catching the full force of the waves.
