Isolated heavy showers give big totals to coastal NSW
Overnight warmth in WA, NT, SA
Overnight cool in SA, TAS

A fresh, unstable southerly airstream continued along the NSW coast today, carrying a conveyor belt of showers NNEwards that remained mostly just offshore. However, the 100km or so of coastline between Newcastle and Sugarloaf point runs from SW to NE and catches southerly flows such as these. Nelson Head, about 50km ENE of Newcastle, recorded 31.8 in the 24 hours to 9 this morning, and a further 79.6 to 9am Wednesday for a 48 hour total of 111.4mm, more than 3 times that recorded anywhere else on the continent. Some heavy showers were reported overnight into Wednesday in coastal suburbs of Sydney, too, with Mosman recording 37.6 and Cronulla 34.0 to 9am Wednesday.

Warm northerlies again gave well above normal minimum temperatures this morning in central eastern WA. Giles Met Office, about 350km WNW of Uluru, recorded an overnight low of 20.2, 11.6 above average, while temperatures in southwestern NT and northwestern SA were also 6 to 9 above the norm.

A High sitting overhead produced some unusually low temperatures close to the seabord in SA and northern TAS. Robe SA recorded 0.5, 8.2 below average, while Flinders Island AP TAS recorded -1.8, 8.3 below. Farther south in the Tasmanian Central Plateau, light overnight snow was reported down to the 740m level.
