Another cold day over central southern Australia, but heat records topple in coastal QLD

Below: Maximum temperatures were again 6 to 11 below normal across an enormous area of the continent today. BoM

A cold southern airmass combined with lingering low cloud over much of inland SA, NSW, SW QLD and southern NT conspired to keep maximum temperatures well below average over much of the continent for the third day running.

It was a different story on the QLD Central Coast, however. Hot, dry west to northwesterly winds have been blowing off the continent across coastal QLD for several days. Today, Ayr and Bowen both recorded their highest October maximum temperatures in the computer database with tops of 37.3 and 34.5 respectively.
