North QLD bushfire "most ferocious in years"

A bushfire which started in Rollingstone, 50km NW of Townsville, around dawn today was described by the local QLD Fire and Rescue Service as one of the most ferocious in the area for years. The fire burnt for 15 hours through hundreds of hectares of bush and farmland, threatening 30 houses, a caravan park and fruit and cane crops, and closing the main Bruce Highway for several hours. During Spring, before the "wet" sets in, is the main bushfire season across tropical Australia.
