Widespread dust raised along trough in eastern AUS

Reflecting the dry conditions that still apply across much of the country, there were widespread reports of raised dust and dust storms today as a vigorous trough amplified east and northwards through western NSW and QLD and southern NT. Wind gusted to 87km/h at Marree SA and 83 at Coonamble NSW, while Thredbo recorded a gust of 113km/h. A dust storm hit Bedourie, 170km N of Birdsville, around 7.30am and visibility was still down to 900m at 9am. Thargomindah QLD and Jervois NT reported visibilities as low as 4km, while widespread dust in the air was reported from NE SA, NW NSW, SW QLD, southern NT and also the WA Gascoyne area. It was a warm night ahead of the trough, with minimum temperatures through western NSW and SW QLD 6 to 10 above average, topping out at Griffith which was 12.2 above with a minimum of 21.0C. A front following the trough brought brief moderate to heavy rain to central and eastern VIC, the VIC/NSW Alps, and northern and western TAS. Details of the heavier falls and strongest wind gusts are below.
