Hailstorm strikes Tamworth NSW

A late morning hailstorm left a carpet of hail 15cm deep in parts of Tamworth. The airport was closed for most of the afternoon while the runway was cleared of ice, while the terminal building was flooded when ceiling tiles came loose and gutters jammed with ice overflowed. The roof of a food store in Armstrong Street collapsed under the weight of hail. The building's A-frame was bent outwards by the weight of several tonnes of ice, leading an engineer brought in by the SES to declare the building unsafe. 36.4mm of rain fell in just over an hour to 1pm.

Large hail reported in SE QLD

Hail to golfball size was reported in the Nerang area behind the QLD Gold Coast and 2cm hail at Surfers Paradise. 3cm hail was reported at Belmont, a Brisbane suburb 12km ESE of the CBD.

Warm in Far North QLD

Temperatures reached the mid-thirties in coastal Far North QLD today, some 4 to 7° above average. While that doesn't seem so much, this is an area that usually experiences fairly constant temperatures, and a top of 32.7 was enough to set a new November record at Lucinda Point. Ayr recorded a top of 37.8 and Townsville 36.5. The unusually war conditions were due to drier continental air from the southwest briefly invading the tropical coast.
