Cold again in NE NT, NW QLD
Isolated storm damages Darwin suburb
Record rain on Lord Howe Island NSW

Cold again in NE NT, NW QLD
The area surrounding the Gulf of Carpentaria again experienced a remarkably cold night for late November. Records fell at Gove and Daly Waters, both lopping 1.4° off records set over 24 and 34 years respectively. Gove Airport's low of 16.7 and Daly Waters' 14.0 were both about 10 below average, while in QLD, Mt Isa's minimum was 13.6, a chilly 8 below.

Isolated storm damages Darwin suburb
An isolated storm, one of many around Darwin today, brought down trees and caused property damage in Palmerston, a southeastern suburb of Darwin. The 45-minute storm, which occurred around 2.30pm, narrowly missed injuring 24 children and a teacher when squally winds brought a tree crashing through the roof of a classroom they had just vacated. Emergency services were kept busy for the afternoon mopping up tree and minor damage. A raingauge at Darwin Profiler, a few kilometres NW of Palmerston, recorded 63.2mm for the 24 hours to 9am Thursday, the nation's highest total.

Record rain on Lord Howe Island NSW
The trough and low pressure area that brought heavy rain to the continent over more than a week gave Lord Howe Island it's heaviest November rain in 15 years this morning. Reports from the island are conflicting. The official 24 hour total was 69mm, but the automatic weather station recorded 4mm from 9am yesterday to midnight, then 34mm between midnight and 3am. Manned readings were then 26 from 3 to 6am and 43 from 6am to 9am, which would give a total of 107mm. 69mm is also the 3am to 9am observer total. We'll update this item when clarification is to hand.
