Weather events
Descriptions of significant weather events replace this text
when reliable information is available and time permits. Information comes
from many sources, and updates may be made well after the event! For
weather news as it happens, your best sources are ABC
News and the breaking
weather forum on Weatherzone.
The graphics and statistical information fill
gradually as they become available, to the following approximate schedule:
- Downpours and gales
and gusts: every 30 minutes through the day.
- Three-hourly
observations for major cities,
alpine centres and noteworthy reports: every 15 minutes through the day.
- Surface charts for each 6 hours: about
2 hours after valid time.
- Satellite images for each hour: about
30 minutes after valid time (if available).
- Rainfall charts: 2pm EST.
- Temperature charts: 2pm EST next day.
- Minimum temperatures (warmest, coldest and major
centres):
To the nearest degree: soon after 9am local time.
Detailed readings (to 1/10th °
C): 12.45pm EST.
- 24-hour rainfall totals (wettest and major
centres):
Initial synoptic reports: soon after 9am local time.
Daily-reporting rainfall stations: 3.45pm EST.
Monthly postal reporting rainfall stations: about the end of next month
- Wind run (windiest and major
centres): 12.45pm EST
- Evaporation (major centres): 12.45pm
EST
- Maximum temperatures (warmest, coldest and major
centres):
To the nearest degree: soon after 3pm local time.
Detailed readings (to 1/10th °
C): 12.45pm EST next day.
