WA: Heavy showers and storms around the southwest coast. Albany city recorded 90.9mm in the 48 hours to 9am Monday after a pair of cold fronts and a brisk SW airstream crossed southwestern WA at the weekend. Storms lasted much of the day in Albany, bringing hail, a 3pm temperature of 8.8C at the airport, and 46mm between noon and 9pm. The 9am Monday total at Albany Airport of 58.8mm was its highest June one-day total in 44 years. Tamuru, 20km NE of the city, also set a new 41-year record. The rainfall map for the week to 9am Monday shows that patchy falls of from 15 to over 50mm occurred around most of the WA sub-tropical coast, though the 5 to 15mm that reached grain and pastoral areas farther inland did not impress drought-stricken farmers waiting for the first good rains of winter.
