SA, NT: Warmth continues in the Centre

A procession of cold fronts across the south of the continent has failed to flush out an area of unusually warm air over central southern AUS -- see the temperature charts below. Ernabella in NW SA recorded a minimum temperature of 15.3, 11 above average and 2.3 above the highest July minimum previously recorded in 11 years.

WA, SA, VIC, TAS: Windy in the south

The same fronts have continued to produce gales along southern coastlines and adjacent ocean waters. Hogan Island, 50km ESE of Wilsons Promontory and technically in TAS, recorded a peak gust of 137km/h and a 10-minute average of 111km/h at 2.45am. Cape Leeuwin WA averaged 59.5km/h over the 24 hours to 9 this morning and followed it up with 56.9km/h over the 24 hours to 9am tomorrow. Other wind data is in the windiest, highest gusts and highest AWS wind reports sections.
