WA, SA: Hot weather continues

High temperatures continued to dominate weather across much of WA today and spread into SA. Today it was the turn of Cygnet Bay, 170km NE of Broome, to set a new April maximum temperature record, its reading of 38.0 breaking the record of 37.6 it set only five days ago. The station has 20 years of record. West Roebuck, 30km east of Broome, recorded the nation's highest temperature of 42.5. Warm conditions for April spread east into SA, giving Nullarbor a top of 35.0, 10.2 above normal, and Mt Barker in the Mount Lofty Ranges behind Adelaide a high of 28.9, 8.6 above.

QLD: Showers and windy in the SE

A tightening pressure gradient between a 1034hPa high SE of Sydney and a 1007hPa low north of New Caledonia freshened winds on the SE QLD coast bringing some heavy showers in off the sea and giving near-galeforce winds along the coast. Cape Moreton recorded the nation's highest average windspeed of 51.3km/h for the 24 hours to 9am. Tewantin recorded 47mm between midnight and midday.
