WA: Gales and rain in the South West

The latest in a succession of cold fronts can be seen entering SW WA on the 10am chart above. Squally westerly winds preceded the front for much of the morning. The highest gusts were 106km/h at Cape Leeuwin, 95 at North Walpole on the South Coast and 91 at Bickley in the ranges east of Perth. Cape Leeuwin's average wind speed for the 24 hours to 9am was a high 70.5km/h -- other high 24-hour averages are listed in Windiest. Lines of showers moved across the South West overnight and for much of the day, giving widespread light falls (see the map for the 24 hours to 9am Thursday) with some moderate totals on the ranges south from Perth to the South Coast. Mt William, 50km SE of Mandurah, recorded 48.6mm for the 2 days ended 9am Thursday.
