Newsbits
QLD: Warm weather continues
TAS: Windy in the south, warm in the north
NSW: Heavy rain on Lord Howe Island

Warm temperatures continued in the eastern half of QLD, with minima up to 9 and maxima up to 6 above average. Weipa Airport set a new July high with a top of 34.5, while other maxima on the Peninsula were around the 34 mark and close to their records. Farther south, Heron Island, Gladstone and Gympie all recorded maxima within a degree of their July records.

A front swept across TAS during the morning, bringing gales and high wind gusts. Mt Wellington summit recorded a top gust of 115km/h at 5am. Hogan Island in eastern Bass Strait averaged 61.9km/h for the 24 hours to 9am. The injection of moist, northerly winds across TAS yesterday resulted in a very warm night for much of the island, with minima up to 8C above average on the east coast (see Hottest). Despite the frontal passage today, conditions remained warm on the North Coast where Launceston, Devonport and Wynyard all recorded maxima within a degree of their July records.

The trough that brought flooding to NSW over the past two days crossed Lord Howe Island today, giving the Airport 65mm between 9am and 9pm, after which the rain ceased. The heavier measurements are in Downpours.
