SE AUS: Widespread soaking rain at last

The rain-bearing system described in detail in yesterday's Daily Weather Summary pushed east through VIC and NSW today, leaving happy farmers and a considerably improved economy in its wake.

The last three months have been the driest on record over most of central and western VIC and SE SA, and across scattered parts of western NSW. This rain event delivered over 50mm across these driest areas, with general falls of 15 to 50mm across all inland areas of SE AUS and northern TAS. The heaviest falls to 9am were in NE VIC and are listed in wettest below. In western NSW, White Cliffs recorded 39.6, and Ivanhoe and Tilpa 38.0. During the day, the rainband moved across central NSW delivering 12 or so hours of soaking rain. For the 24 hours to 9am Sunday, Narrabri West PO recorded 54.0mm, Gunnedah Pool 55.0 and Tamworth Airport 43.0.

A list of the many record June rainfalls is below.
