TAS: Icy conditions cause trouble on roads

Roads became icy in parts of TAS this morning during another very cold night away from the coast. Moogara, 30km W of Hobart, equalled its 12 year June record minimum of -3.8, while on the Central Plateau Liawenee was the coldest place in the country with a low of -8.0. There were six crashes in just over an hour on an icy section of the Tasman Highway at Mornington, a little east of Hobart's Tasman Bridge. Other crashes caused by icy roads were reported at Lower Longley, New Norfolk and on Hobart's Bowen Bridge.

NSW: Heavy showers in Sydney's north

A moist SE stream slowly turning easterly brought showers to the NSW coast yesterday and today with Sydney's northern suburbs most favoured by heavy falls. Avalon Beach recorded 51.4mm for the 24 hours to 9am, giving a 3-day total there of 90.0mm. Falls in other suburbs and along the coast were lighter -- between 10 and 30mm from the Illawarra to the Mid North Coast and below 10mm elsewhere.
