Large hail in central NSW

Violent storms, tornado in SE Qld

A severe storm developed southwest of Ipswich and moved through Ipswich, southern Brisbane suburbs and the Brisbane CBD late this afternoon. Amberley AWS recorded a peak wind gust of 111km/h and a remarkable sustained 10-minute average windspeed of 100km/h at 4.23pm. A tornado and golf ball sized hail were reported at nearby Bundamba destroying a partially built house causing considerable tree damage around Bellbowrie to the northeast. A man who was struck by lightning in Brisbane's inner south survived.

Currabubula SW of Tamworth reported hail 5cm in diameter.
