Indian Summer heats up in SA

High pressure building in the Tasman Sea gave summery weather to SA and western NSW today. Overnight minima were in the high teens or low 20s, while today's temperatures reached into the mid to high 30s. Price on the Yorke Peninsula reached 37.0°, 14.7 above average, while Port Augusta, Kyancutta, Tarcoola, Marree and Whyalla in SA and White Cliffs and Menindee in western NSW all recorded 37 or a little above. Rosevale, 50km NE of Adelaide, topped out at 35.6, 12.7 above. A grass fire between Arthurton and Kulpara on the Yorke Peninsula kept about 60 CFS volunteers busy as it burnt through about 30ha.

It has been an exceptionally warm week in SA and neighbouring areas. Average maxima for the week have been 6° or more above average over most of the state while minima have been nearly as high.

Useful storm rains mount up in WA

Thunderstorms continued to be widespread across WA yesterday and today. Most of the state's central and southern inland accumulated 15 to 50mm over the week to 9am Wednesday with the heaviest totals at Mulga Downs 109.2, Yeelirrie 78.8, Paraburdoo 74.2 and Tuckanarra 72.5. Other good totals were Meekatharra 60.8, Paynes Find 60.2 and Gascoyne Junction 45.5.
