Cold day across the continent

Virtually the entire continent recorded below average maximum temperatures today with inland area some 6 to 11 below the norm. Some unusually cold maxima included Watarrka, in the MacDonnell Ranges west of Alice Springs 19.3 (10.5 below average), Windorah QLD 18.8 (-9.4) and Broken Hill NSW 12.0 (-9.4). The cold airmass that pushed northeast into Australia earlier in the week also produced abnormally low minimum temperatures this morning across eastern WA and parts of the NT and western QLD. Ali Curung, 150km south of Tennant Creek, set a new September record for cold with a minimum of 5.1.
