Flooding continues in Far North QLD
Tropical Cyclone Max moves into WA waters

Flooding continues in Far North QLD

Renewed rainfall in the Tully and Murray River Basins south of Cairns is keeping both systems at minor flood level. The Tully at Euramo, just south of the town of Tully, maintained a level around 7 metres today, down from its peak of 8.1m yesterday, but the smaller Murray River at Murray Flats, just south of Euramo, maintained a level near its peak of 7.23m throughout the day as rain kept falling. In the 6 hours to 4pm, flood warning rain stations in the two catchments reported 40 to 60mm, with a top of 65mm at Jarra Creek, 10km NW of Tully.

Tropical Cyclone Max moves into WA waters

Tropical Cyclone Max moved across waters about 100km north of the WA Kimberley coastline today. The cyclone deepened slightly, and by late this evening had shifted from a slow westerly to a slow southwesterly course with central pressure 988hPa. The only affects on WA were to produce strong gusty winds and record rainfall at Troughton Island, on the far north Kimberley coast 80km NW of Kalumburu. The island recorded 122mm for the 24 hours to 9am Thursday, an 18-year March record, though most of the rain fell today. 149mm was recorded in the 24 hours between 6am today and 6am Thursday.
