Lack of NSW rain brings fire ban forward

Lack of NSW rain brings fire ban forward

Continuing dry conditions across much of NSW have resulted in authorities declaring an early start to the bushfire season in 2004. Fire bans normally begin in October will now start on 1 August in 46 local government areas in northern NSW and along the coast, including Sydney's south and west, the Blue Mountains, the Central Coast, and in and around Wollongong. In the Gloucester area north of Newcastle, the bans will come into force on 15 July.
