Thick fog causes accidents in western TAS

A stagnant trough lay across TAS today, producing moist conditions and light winds. Low cloud drifted off Bass Strait onto the northwest coast during the morning and early afternoon, producing dense fog on north-facing slopes and triggering two accidents involving logging trucks and 4WD vehicles on the Hampshire Link Road south of Burnie, closing the road for several hours.

Wet, cold in the Centre

Thick cloud drifting SE under the jet stream gave an area around Alice Springs and south to the SA border unseasonably low temperatures and some reasonable rain today. Alice Springs Airport and Kulgera, 250km to the south, recorded top temperatures of only 23°, around 9 below average. In the 3 hours to midday, Kulgera registered 16mm of rain.
