Notes on significant weather not yet written

Minor flooding occurred in the Waterhouse, Roper and Victoria River catchments. The Victoria Highway, between Katherine and Kununurra, was cut on the 20th and remained closed for the rest of the month. A traveller was lost, presumed drowned, while attempting to cross the flooded bridge. The Central Arnhem Road, between Maranboy and Gove, was also cut for a number of days. All streams in the Victoria River catchment began rising about the 15th. On the 20th the Victoria River at the Roadhouse overtopped the bridge, cutting the Victoria Highway to Western Australia. The highway remained closed at month's end.

Overnight on the 20th-21st, heavy rain generated from thunderstorms caused localised flooding across parts of far north South Australia. To 9 am on the 21st, Tieyon Station recorded 167 mm and Hamilton Station 105 mm. At Tieyon, the rain was most intense for a two to three hour period between 1am and 4 am. Overall, the rain was welcomed by pastoralists, despite flooded creeks, collapsed dams and washed away fences.
